Balatongyörök Municipal Beach is the central bathing place of the village, combining the classic Lake Balaton beach experience with comfortable services, a well-maintained environment and the unique atmosphere of Balatongyörök.
One of the beach’s greatest assets is its long sandy shallow shoreline, which is especially popular with visitors arriving with children. The shallow waterfront area, playground, sandpit and water slide naturally create the experience of a shared family beach day, while the combination of sunny and shady areas also makes the beach a comfortable choice for those looking to relax.
The Municipal Beach is not only a good choice for a full day of bathing. Thanks to its central location, it is easy to reach on foot, by bicycle, by train or by boat, making it suitable for a shorter Lake Balaton stop, a refreshing swim, a beach lunch or a peaceful afternoon break. Due to its proximity to the Balaton Cycle Route and the direct accessibility of the harbour, the beach is a natural meeting point for guests arriving in Balatongyörök.
Several comfort services help guests enjoy a carefree stay: changing facilities, toilets, baby-changing rooms, bicycle racks, lockers, food and drink options, sports facilities and relaxation areas are all available within the beach area. Access and barrier-free entry
Balatongyörök Municipal Beach is easy to reach on foot, by bicycle, by train, by boat and by car. Thanks to its central location, the beach is a convenient choice not only for a full day of bathing, but also for a shorter Lake Balaton stop, a cycling break or a visit after arriving by boat.
The beach welcomes guests with two entrances. The main entrance can be reached from the railway crossing, while the second ticket office is accessible from the railway pedestrian overpass and from the direction of the Balaton Cycle Route. Both entrances are barrier-free, ensuring convenient access for guests with reduced mobility, wheelchair users and visitors arriving with prams.
Free parking is available near the beach for guests arriving by car, including parking spaces for visitors with reduced mobility. The railway station is only a few minutes’ walk from the main entrance, making the beach especially easy to reach by train. The nearest bus stop is located along road 71, from where the beach can be reached on foot.
Guests arriving by boat can reach the main entrance directly with a short walk from the harbour. For cyclists, it is especially convenient that the Balaton Cycle Route runs directly next to the beach.,

One of the beach’s greatest assets is its 120-metre-long sandy shallow shoreline, which provides a pleasant setting for bathing in Lake Balaton. The playground, sandpit and water slide naturally connect to the beach experience: they offer play and movement for children, and shared summer moments for families.
Relaxing in the shade, in the sun or on the pier
Guests looking for relaxation can choose between shady and sunny areas, so everyone can find the spot that suits them best. Some visitors prefer sunbathing, while others look for a peaceful place under a tree, an afternoon of reading by Lake Balaton or a quieter conversation. The sunbathing pier is one of the classic elements of the Lake Balaton beach atmosphere, where the closeness of the water and the panorama of Györök together create the feeling of summer relaxation.
Active recreation
For those looking for a more active beach day, sports opportunities are also available within the beach area. The beach volleyball court, ping-pong table and teqball table provide good opportunities to make active recreation part of the day alongside bathing.

Beach library – offline relaxation in an online zone
At the Balatongyörök beach, you can also read while relaxing by the water. The Beach Library welcomes visitors with good-condition novels, children’s books and literary works in the main building of the beach, in the free WiFi zone.
Anyone can take a book from the shelf, read it by the lake or even take it home. There is no registration, no administration and no obligation to return the books. The initiative is maintained by the Bertha Bulcsu Cultural Centre and Library and the Tourinform office.
Offline relaxation in an online zone – for us, this is not a contradiction, but an opportunity.
New: free WiFi across almost the entire beach area
One of the important developments of the 2026 season is that free WiFi will be available across almost the entire area of Balatongyörök Municipal Beach. The aim of this joint development with Telekom is to allow guests to connect to the online world comfortably, safely and easily even while relaxing on the shore of Lake Balaton.
The free WiFi can be especially useful for those who would like to quickly look up information, plan a programme, stay in touch with family members or share a beautiful Györök moment.
In addition, a Business WiFi service is also available within the beach area for an extra fee. It provides stable, strong broadband access for those who need a reliable internet connection even in the middle of a peaceful beach day. Information about using the Business WiFi service is available at the beach ticket office.
New: senior ticket for guests aged 65 and over
In the 2026 season, a new senior ticket will be introduced for guests aged 65 and over, available at the same price as the children’s ticket. The aim is to make the Balatongyörök beach experience accessible to older guests under comfortable and favourable conditions.
Comfort services
Several comfort services help ensure a carefree beach day. Changing cabins and changing buildings are available at several points within the beach area, while the toilets operate continuously in two locations. Accessible toilets are also available in the toilet buildings.
For guests arriving with small children, 2 baby-changing rooms are available, equipped with changing tables, nursing chairs and hand sanitiser. Accessible changing facilities are available for guests with reduced mobility, and information about assistance for entering the water can be requested at the ticket offices.
More than 60 lockers can be rented daily within the beach area. Information about locker rental is available at the beach ticket office.

Bicycle racks are available at every entrance for guests arriving by bike. Thanks to the proximity of the Balaton Cycle Route, the Municipal Beach is a good choice not only for a full beach day, but also for a shorter cycling break, a refreshment stop or a quick swim.
Gastronomy and beach atmosphere
The beach’s food and drink outlets are a natural part of a day by Lake Balaton: a coffee, ice cream, lemonade, light lunch or beach snack often belongs to the experience just as much as bathing itself. The Municipal Beach is therefore not only a bathing place, but also a waterfront meeting point where relaxation, swimming, flavours and the atmosphere of Györök naturally come together.
Safety and peaceful relaxation
At Balatongyörök Municipal Beach, it is important that guests can spend their beach time not only comfortably, but also calmly and safely. The well-maintained beach environment, the clearly arranged waterfront areas and the continuously operating services all contribute to making lakeside relaxation a truly carefree experience.
During opening hours, guests’ safety is supported by a lifeguard service and medical supervision. Daytime supervision is also supported by a security service, which helps maintain the order, calm operation and comfort of the beach.
The camera system operating within the beach area also supports safer and more orderly beach use. Its purpose is to protect the beach infrastructure, preserve order in the shared spaces and help guests enjoy the Balatongyörök beach experience in a cultured and peaceful environment.
The safety and supervision system is not intended to limit the freedom of beach life, but to support it: so that guests can relax freely, children can play with ease, and families, groups of friends and individual visitors can truly focus on recreation.

In order to ensure a peaceful stay, a well-maintained beach environment and the safety of bathers, we kindly ask all visitors to observe the beach rules.
Dogs are not allowed to enter Balatongyörök Municipal Beach, and bathing dogs within the beach area is prohibited. Fishing is also not permitted within the beach area.

In 2025, our beach received not only the five-star Kék Hullám Flag rating, but also the Special Award of Zala County. We are proud that continuous improvements and a guest-centred approach have brought such prestigious recognition to Balatongyörök.
The water at Balatongyörök beach is of excellent quality. In 2015, Balatongyörök beach achieved the highest score in the “Most Popular Balaton Beach” competition organised by the Balatontipp online regional guide.
In 2018, Balatongyörök Municipal Beach was named the “Greenest Beach of Lake Balaton”. The evaluation criteria included environmental education, water-saving practices, the use of renewable energy, bicycle accessibility, animal protection and the presence of local products.
Györöki Experience Ticket – two hours of Balatongyörök
Sometimes you do not need a full day at the beach – just a quick swim, a coffee by the lake, an ice cream, a peaceful break or a Lake Balaton moment that recharges you. This is why the Györöki Experience Ticket was created.
The Györöki Experience Ticket is a special short-time beach entry ticket for Balatongyörök Municipal Beach. It is a good choice if you only arrive for a few hours, but would still like to experience the Györök beach atmosphere: take a swim, rest in the shade, visit one of the food and drink outlets, read from the Beach Library or simply stop for a moment on the shore of Lake Balaton.
The idea is simple: you can use the beach for 2 hours from the time of purchase. If you leave the beach within this time, the refundable part of the ticket price will be returned to you. If you stay longer, the ticket automatically becomes a full-day beach entry without refund.
Who do we recommend it for?
For guests arriving by bicycle
The Municipal Beach is located close to the Balaton Cycle Route, making it an ideal rest stop during a tour. You can stop for a refreshment, use the toilet, refill your water bottle, take a swim or simply relax by the water.
For guests arriving by boat
The beach’s main entrance can be reached with a short walk from the harbour, making it a good option for guests arriving by boat as well. If you do not have time for a full beach day, but would like to enjoy a taste of the Györök summer atmosphere, the Experience Ticket is a convenient solution.
For those looking for a gastronomic experience
A coffee, lemonade, ice cream or light beach lunch can often be a Lake Balaton programme in itself. The Györöki Experience Ticket is also a good choice if you primarily wish to visit the beach’s food and drink outlets while enjoying the closeness of the water.
For a short swim
If you only have time for a quick swim, refreshment or a daytime stop by Lake Balaton, you do not have to miss out on the beach experience. The Györöki Experience Ticket offers a flexible option for these short yet complete moments.
For those who want to relax, read and recharge
The Beach Library, shady resting areas, waterfront atmosphere and the panorama of Györök can also offer an experience to those who do not necessarily come to swim. Sometimes two hours are enough to step out of the day and return to the calm of Lake Balaton.

Price and operation of the Györöki Experience Ticket
The price of the Györöki Experience Ticket is the same as the day ticket price valid on the given day, but HUF 1,000 is refunded if the guest leaves within 2 hours.
Weekdays:
The Györöki Experience Ticket costs HUF 1,700.
If the guest leaves the beach area within 2 hours from the time of purchase, HUF 1,000 is refunded, so the fee for short-time beach use is HUF 700.
Weekends:
The Györöki Experience Ticket costs HUF 2,000.
If the guest leaves the beach area within 2 hours from the time of purchase, HUF 1,000 is refunded, so the fee for short-time beach use is HUF 1,000.
If the guest stays at the beach for more than 2 hours, the Experience Ticket becomes a full-day beach entry without refund.
